Wellness Retreats in Europe

Our favorite corners of Europe, thoughtfully chosen for slow travel, quiet mornings, and the kind of hospitality that stays with you.

travelling in Europe

A continent for slow weeks, not grand tours

Our European retreats sit in Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Greece and Italy, and every one of them is built around staying put. The temptation in Europe is to keep moving, three countries in ten days, a train every other morning. We do the opposite: one or two bases, short journeys between them, and enough time in each to learn where the good bread is.

That is what the region does better than anywhere else we work. A village square that fills at dusk, a coastal path you can walk before breakfast, a table that stays occupied for three hours. None of it requires effort, and all of it requires time.

What distinguishes each country

The countries are close together and feel nothing alike.

Atlantic and Mediterranean

Portugal faces the Atlantic, which means surf, cooler water and a particular clear light, with converted historic buildings inland along the rivers. Spain runs from Andalucian courtyards to Catalan coves and the volcanic slopes of Tenerife. The difference in water temperature alone changes what a week feels like.

Islands and old stone

Croatia is Adriatic islands and walled towns with water clear enough to see the bottom from the boat. Greece is Aegean blue, whitewash and afternoons that stretch. Italy holds hills, coastal cliffs and long slow tables, and in Sicily a food culture that is worth structuring a trip around.

Season over destination

Shoulder season, spring and early autumn, is when southern Europe is at its best: warm water, working towns rather than tourist towns, and prices that have come back down. High summer is beautiful and busy, and if those are the only weeks you have, the choice of base matters more than usual.

Everyday life as the itinerary

European retreats lean on ordinary things done well. Morning practice on a terrace, a market walk with someone who buys there weekly, a swim before lunch, an afternoon left deliberately empty, dinner cooked from what was in season that morning.

Distances are short, which means the group can be spontaneous. If the weather turns, a hill walk becomes a kitchen afternoon without wrecking the week. That flexibility is one of the strongest arguments for Europe if this is your group's first retreat abroad.

It also travels well for mixed-ability groups. Nobody has to hike or swim to have a full day here, and the pace suits multi-generational travellers better than a safari or a Himalayan itinerary does.

a slower kind of journey

Old World, Renewed Perspective

From sun-warmed olive groves to windswept coastlines, Europe offers a slower kind of grandeur, the kind found in a shared meal, a village square at dusk, a morning walk along a centuries-old shore.
